    ICT 4 SME – a sustainable approach to the SME market

    The session will focus on the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) use within Small and Medium Sized (SME) enterprises to increase their business opportunities. The IT Industry in India has grown rapidly over the last two decades; however, it is mainly directed towards the foreign market and ICT penetration in most parts of the country especially within the SME sector remains low. The main challenges SMEs face are analyzed in the first part of the session. The second part will focus on the approach the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) has chosen to establish a sustainable business model, including actors such as Business Associations, Business Development Service (BDS) providers as well as Independent Software Vendors, to penetrate the SME market and increase ICT adoption. A special focus will be on the role of the BDS providers as an adoption catalyst. The session will end with examples from the field and practitioners sharing their experiences. AGENDA
